Santa Cruz-based Brazilian band SambaDa headlines benefit concert celebrating the 11-year anniversary of The Wahine Project
Santa Cruz-based Brazilian band SambaDa headlines a Saturday, July 10th benefit concert celebrating the 11-year anniversary of The Wahine Project, staged in front of WahineHQ/Alma del Mar at 398 Shasta Avenue, Sand City. The event runs from 2-5pm and will include silent auction, games and crafts for the kids, drinks and food for purchase.
Tickets are $30 for adults and kids are free. All proceeds help get deserving kids in the water, in support of the Wahine Project’s mission to empower Monterey County Youth to have a relationship with the ocean…one surfer and boogie boarder at a time.
“It’s not just about getting in the water. It’s really about coming into community,” said Wahine Project founder Dionne Ybarra. “We’ve seen that the relationship with the ocean becomes a powerful vehicle for connecting youth to their own self-empowerment as well as a way to connect diverse communities to environment, ocean and with one another.”
For over ten years, SambaDá has been mixing contemporary sounds with the roots of Brazilian culture. Their samba-reggae-funk sound unites the Americas, drawing from percussion-based styles of South and Central America, and blends it with that good old funk and reggae back beat so familiar to crowds of North America. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at thewahineproject.org. All proceeds support the Wahine Project’s mission to help eliminate the barriers preventing a diversity of youth from a personal relationship with the ocean and with one another. Entertainment includes silent auction, games for the kids, drinks and food for purchase.
The concert is outdoors and great for all ages! Join the fun!! Tickets can be purchased at www.wahineproject.org.
