RYE BROOK, NY — A police chase early Wednesday morning came to a chilling close when a stolen car crashed into a Westchester County Police Department cruiser.
A pursuit that would eventually include law enforcement agencies from Westchester County, Rye Brook, Harrison and Greenwich, Connecticut as well as police helicopters and K9 units ended with a manhunt after a stolen car collided with a police car. Eventually, two suspects were taken into custody, according to police.
The car chase, which started on King Street in Rye Brook and ended with a crash on Robbins Roost Street, became a foot pursuit. One suspect was quickly caught, but a second suspect eluded police for several hours before the manhunt was called off just before 6 a.m. at the start of the morning rush hour. Authorities believed that the at-large suspect was no longer in the area, but the second person believed to be an occupant of the stolen car was later located and taken into custody.
A Westchester County Police Department officer found the first suspect and took him into custody. He was identified only as an 18-year-old Connecticut resident. He was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property.
Rye Brook police officers later found the second suspect and took him into custody. He is a 16-year-old and will be charged as a juvenile.
The vehicle that was recovered is a 2021 Lexus that was stolen in Scarsdale.
There were no serious injuries reported as a result of the crash or the subsequent foot chase. The identities of the suspects in custody have not yet been released.
