MOUNT VERNON, NY — An armed home invasion shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning led to a car chase that resulted in a crash and a subsequent foot pursuit. Police ultimately took a suspect into custody and seized a loaded .45 caliber handgun. One suspect remains at large. Police say they were initially in the area near South Sixth Avenue and West Third Street because of reports from neighbors about gunfire. That's when they were told that two armed suspects broke into a nearby home waving guns. While investigating the reported armed break-in at the home in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue, officers heard gunshots coming from in front of the house and then saw two cars speed away. A blue Nissan Sentra police said was being driven by Yorddy Nunez from the Bronx, crashed a few blocks away. After a brief foot chase, Nunez was taken into custody and a hand gun was recovered, according to investigators. The second car at the scene of the gunfire is described as a black BMW. The car was last seen fleeing south in the direction of the Bronx. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the Mount Vernon Police Department Detective Division at 914-665-2510.
