Class offerings:Elevating Questions: Techniques That Take Children’s Thinking Higher
Questioning is an important part of communicating with children as it instigates thinking and responding. Questioning is one of the ways we gain access to children’s knowledge, interests and thought processes and it is one of the ways we assess their learning. This session will focus on elevating the questions we ask young children in order to stretch their thinking, scaffold their learning and ignite higher order thinking skills.
Taming The Tiger: Helping Young Children Work Through Big Emotions
It is developmentally challenging for young children to separate their feelings from their actions. When struck with big emotions like anger, frustration or sadness, children may respond in dramatic or disruptive ways. Adults must help children to recognize, name and appropriately express their feelings. Developing emotional intelligence enable children to manage big emotions effectively and avoid being emotionally hijacked by anger, frustration or conflict
Sensory Play Every Day: Creating A Sensory Rich Classroom
Our senses allow us to experience and respond to everything in our environment. Messy is the word that often comes to mind when we think about sensory play. But sensory play is far more than messy tactile activities. It includes anything that engages the senses, movement or balance. Be ready for fun, “grab-n-go” sensory ideas that promote higher order thinking skills and stimulate language development, creative exploration, concept development and social learning for your preschoolers.
