Breakthrough Intensive Physical Therapy Set to Host The Run to Breakthrough Fundraiser Event The Long Island Based Neurological PT Business’s 85 Mile Super-marathon will Take Place on September 4th to Support The Special Needs Community September 4th, 2021 (Islandia, NY)— Founder and CEO of Breakthrough Intensive Physical Therapy, Dr. Christine Astarita, will be hosting and running a super-marathon from Montauk, NY to the Breakthrough office in Islandia, NY on September 4th, 2021 (85 miles total). This event is special for a vast amount of reasons. Not only will the money raised be donated to Angela’s House (Long Island based non-profit organization that assists families caring for children with special health care needs, the chronically ill, medically fragile, or those suffering from a life threatening illness), Christine is also offering two prizes to the top 2 families who start a team and raise the most money to support the fundraiser. The first place winner will be receiving a $1,000 credit towards their sessions at Breakthrough. The Second place winner will receive a $500 credit. Here’s the twist! Dr. Astarita will be selecting a group of clients to push in an adaptive stroller for certain legs of the run. This idea was inspired by the legendary Dick Hoyt, who competed in races with his son Rick over 32 times! She also invites anyone who wants to support this cause to run alongside her, ride in an adaptive tricycle, or just cheer her on from the sideline! Christine wants to bring the special needs community together to celebrate their resilience and prove their abilities, strength, growth, and ability to adapt. This past year has been challenging for most people, especially this community. These families had to fight extra hard to get the equipment and care needed during the pandemic. Children’s norms got flipped upside down, forcing them to adapt and adjust. But they overcame the stormy season that was brought onto them, just like they always do. More often than not, it is a fight everyday for these families, regardless of a pandemic. They assist over 670 families that take care of their kids at home (providing medical equipment, nursing support, medications, therapies, and making sure homes are handicapped accessible). Additionally, they provide a safe and nurturing environment in their three “Angela’s Houses” for those who are unable to live at home anymore (homes with 24 hour nursing care). 25 years ago, this organization was founded by the Policastro family  as a result of the real life crisis they personally lived through, with their daughter Angela. Because they have first hand experience having a child with special health care needs, their approach and passion for helping other families is so ignited. Breakthrough is an intensive physical therapy practice that helps children and adults with neurological diagnoses become as independent as possible. Improving their mobility and building their confidence through intensive PT, group classes, and personal training are just a few examples of how this office helps to make a difference in the lives of dozens of families. Breakthrough also supports the parents and siblings with sibshops and parent group meetings where they can come together, share their stories, and relate to other families facing similar hardships so they don’t feel alone. Anyone who walks through the doors at Breakthrough will be supported as a whole family. Dr. Astarita wants to help build a world in which special needs families’ lives are positively impacted by giving inspiration, support, and hope to them!
