FRAMINGHAM, MA — A $200,000 state grant will allow Framingham to upgrade pedestrian infrastructure in the Saxonville area. The city's Department of Public Works was awarded the grant Wednesday from the state Shared Streets and Spaces program. They money will be used to upgrade pedestrian accessibility along School Street with construction set to begin later this year, according to DPW. "Our public works team is very appreciative of the Baker-Polito Administration and theMassachusetts Department of Transportation for this grant opportunity, Director of PublicWorks Blake Lukis said in a news release. "It is vital to keep investing and improving Framingham's public infrastructure." The Shared Streets and Spaces program launched last summer as a way to help cities and towns open outdoor spaces during the pandemic — be it for exercise or commerce. The program has since provided millions to communities to rebuild public infrastructure.
