FRAMINGHAM, MA — Three top Framingham officials will come together for a panel discussion this week about issues in city schools like policing, the conduct of teachers and staff and discipline. Mayor Yvonne Spicer, Superintendent Robert Tremblay and Police Chief Lester Baker will be on hand during the forum to answer questions about those school issues and more. The July 8 forum is being sponsored by Framingham Families for Racial Equity in Education (FFREE), whose members — along with students — renewed their push to eliminate school resource officers (SROs) from Framingham Public Schools buildings. Baker has said he's not in favor of removing SROs citing their public safety benefit, but has said police should not be involved in school discipline issues. FFREE has said SROs disproportionately harm students of color, and many are afraid of seeing police in schools. Anyone interested in attending the Thursday panel discuss should register here.
