Topsfield Fair Returns With No Restrictions This October

TOPSFIELD, MA — One of the great family traditions in Massachusetts is coming back this fall with the return of the Topsfield Fair. The 200-year-old fair — which was canceled for only the third time in its history because of the coronavirus crisis last fall — will return with "no restrictions" this October at the historic fairgrounds. Last year marked only the third time in its history that the oldest fair in America was canceled — previously because of the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918 and during three years of World War II — with organizers noting that when it returned in 1946 it came back to "record-breaking attendance." The Topsfield Fair drew 38,000 people during its last opening weekend in 2019. Organizers said extra precautions are being taken with the installation of additional washing sinks and sanitizing stations, but that no mask or social distancing restrictions are expected at this time. One thing the Topsfield Fair does need to reopen and serve the thousands of families who missed out on the fun last year is a robust staff. Tickets are also already on sale with full admission tickets $12 in advance and $15 if purchased during the week of the fair. Tickets can be purchased here with group rates also available. While most of the mainstays — including the draft horse show, tractor pull and, of course, the Great Pumpkin Weigh-In — will return for 2021, other events and musical acts will be announced soon.
