New Intersection Unveiled At West Avenue And West Main Street

STAMFORD, CT — Stamford officials unveiled a new and improved intersection at West Avenue and West Main Street with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday afternoon. The intersection has been frequently recognized for its traffic congestion and previously lacked pedestrian facilities up to today's safety standards. Mayor David Martin was joined by the Department of Transportation, Traffic, and Parking. "Our city remains committed to traffic and pedestrian safety and I am thrilled we're taking another step in the right direction in that regard," Martin said in a news release. The intersection improvements include widening of the intersection, the addition of dedicated turn lanes on both West Main Street and West Avenue, new traffic signals, ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, and thermoplastic crosswalks. The project required obtaining project support from local residents and property owners, funding procurement, and gaining project approvals at both the state and local levels. The Project was funded through the CTDOT Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP), which covered 100% of the construction cost. The City of Stamford was responsible for the design and Right Of Way acquisitions. "We are excited to announce the completion of this highly anticipated intersection improvement project which will help address traffic flow and multimodal safety at one of the city's busiest intersections," said Transportation, Traffic, & Parking Interim Bureau Chief Frank W.
