Police Warn Long Valley Residents Of Unemployment Identity Theft

LONG VALLEY, NJ - The Washington Township Police Department recently alerted residents of a new type of identity theft scam that has happened to several people in the township, who have had scammers file fake unemployment claims, using their names and social security numbers, in attempts to fraudulently collect benefits. Police cautioned residents if they learn outside of their employer's Human Resources department that they've fallen victim to this scam, they should immediately report it to a company representative at their workplace. Residents who learn of a fraudulent claim in their name, will need to file both a police report with the Washington Township Police Department and file a fraud report with New Jersey's Department of Labor, police said.
