LANHAM, MD — Police said a two-vehicle crash injured three people in Lanham on Sunday. Two of them went to the hospital, officers added. An incident report noted that the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. on eastbound U.S. Route 50 before Interstate 495, also known as the Capital Beltway. Troopers explained that a 24-year-old man from Washington, D.C. was weaving through traffic at a high rate of speed in a silver Audi. He then struck the back of a blue Toyota RAV4 and lost control, the write-up mentioned. The Maryland State Police informed that the Audi eventually hit the median and overturned, ejecting the driver and his 23-year-old passenger from the District of Columbia. Medics took both occupants to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in Largo, officers indicated. Police shared that the Toyota driver, a 42-year-old Maryland woman, was uninjured. Troopers reported that first responders treated her passenger, a 10-year-old girl, for minor injuries on the scene. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the wreck, the release concluded.
