Man Arrested After Crash Knocks Out Power In Concord: Watch

CONCORD, NH — Concord police and firefighters were sent to Washington Street for a crash on Wednesday. Around 12:15 p.m., dispatch began receiving reports of a car crashing into a utility pole. When they arrived, police found a Subaru sedan had driven into and snapped the pole, there were live wires dangling in the middle of the street, and a fire hydrant was also damaged. A firefighter noted the pole was being held up by wires from other poles and a home. "We will need Unitil," the fire commander said, "with a little bit of urgency." The commander also called for water department workers from Concord General Services to assist with the hydrant, which was not flowing with water. Power was knocked out to a handful of homes in the North End but when Unitil arrived, they were able to switch power lines allowing for just a single home to be without power while the pole was being repaired, according to a firefighter at the scene. The driver, a 40-year-old man, was medically cleared and the EMTs returned to service. Later, after checking his license, he was questioned away from the accident. Dispatch reported his license was suspended and revoked in 2016 and 2018. At just before 1 p.m., he was taken into custody.
