DALLAS, TX — The Conservative Action Political Conference, set for Friday through Sunday, should provide a hot time in the old town all weekend long. With former President Donald Trump and Don Jr. set to speak, you can expect new insults and old grievances to air as conservatives continue to weigh the idea that a democracy that includes diversity is not nearly as desirable as autocratic white rule. It's a safe bet to predict that will be the baseline of what gets said repeatedly in code and in plain language. And while QAnon views may not be front and center, debunking its conspiracy theories will probably not get much oxygen, either. CPAC is what one progressive calls a "Weekend Wacko Woodstock." Panel discussions cover the panorama of right-wing talking points, including "Can Cancel Culture Be Canceled?", "Engaging in a World Where the Left Has Made Everything Political," and a personal favorite, "Tyranny Without Talking: The Left's Efforts to Destroy America." Conspicuously not on the agenda: Any remarks by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who will not appear, or any post-mortem on the insurrection, in which more indicted rioters hail from Texas than any other part of the country. Of course, zany stuff could come from any of the speakers, but the ones most likely to stir media attention are sprinkled throughout the weekend, with the former chief executive retaining headline status. Here are five to watch and when they will appear: 1. Former President Donald J. Trump speaks at 3:35 p.m. Sunday. 2. Donald Trump Jr. speaks at 4:50 p.m. Friday. 3. Newbie North Carolina conservative heartthrob Madison Cawthorn speaks at 3:25 p.m. Friday. 4. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick speaks at 3:10 p.m. Friday. 5. Glenn Beck, formerly of Fox TV, speaks at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. 6. Texas Rep. Louis Gohmert and newly declared gubernatorial challenger Allen West will share the stage at 9:10 a.m. Sunday.
