NOVATO, CA – A Marin County Superior Court judge last week sentenced a convicted Novato killer to life in prison, The Marin Independent Journal reports. Juan Carlos Martinez Henriquez, 22, a former Novato High School student, was convicted earlier this year of murder and attempted murder in connection with the 2016 gang-related killing of a classmate during an assault that left another classmate seriously injured. Martinez Henriquez on Tuesday was sentenced by Judge Kelly Simmons to life without the possibility of parole and a consecutive term of 40 years to life for the attempted murder conviction. Martinez Henriquez's attorneys had sought a sentence of 41 years to life with the possibility of parle according to the report. Martinez Henriquez was 17 at the time of the killing according to the report. Edenilson Misael Alfaro, a 27-year-old co-defendant, is in county jail awaiting his trial according to the report.
