DEERFIELD, IL — Crediting Deerfield residents for taking COVID-19 seriously, Mayor Dan Shapiro lifted the Village's Declaration of Emergency, first put in place at the beginning of the pandemic on March 16, 2020. Shapiro said Deerfield has had no new coronavirus cases for more than a week. Monday also marked the first time since March 16 last year that there were no COVID-19 deaths in the state, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. "I want to thank the residents, business community and Village staff for getting us to this place. Deerfield took COVID-19 seriously," Shapiro said in a news release. "We social distanced, we masked up and we got vaccinated. We did this together. While the virus is not completely gone, we should all be proud of our efforts and continue to be safe." Shapiro went on to remind residents that have not yet received a vaccine, to do so. Click here to find the best local option.
