IREDELL COUNTY, NC — The Iredell County Sheriff's Office seized two handguns and a semiautomatic AR-15 pistol Monday after two men were charged with shooting weapons inside the city limits of Statesville.
According to an ICSO account, deputies and Statesville police responded to a residential neighborhood in the 1000 block of Park Drive on July 5 after reports of shots being fired in the area.
At the scene, deputies found numerous .223 caliber and pistol caliber shell casings in the grass and sidewalk, ICSO said. During the course of an investigation, Tyrell Lee Bennett, 30, and Jamad Shaquille Houpe, 26, both of Statesville, were identified as suspects.
Bennett and Houpe were both detained, and during searches, were found to have handguns on them, ICSO said. Deputies also found an AR-15 pistol loaded with a 60-round drum-style magazine lying on the front seat of Houpe's vehicle.
ICSO seized the weapons and charged Houpe and Bennett with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor discharging a weapon within the city limits.
