Santa Barbara Wildlife Care Network is seeking a full-time, qualified janitorial team member. The center has multiple kitchens, animal care areas, and bathrooms that need regular daily cleanings. This position is janitorial in nature and does not involve direct animal care; however, any job applicant must be comfortable with animals as animals are kept throughout the facility. Position: Animal Care Janitor Salary: $13/hour Job Type: Full-time, 30-40 hours/week Location: SBWCN Wildlife Care Facility – Goleta, CA Reports to: Animal Rehabilitation Coordinator and Director of Operations Work authorization: Candidates must be able to present proof they are legally authorized to work in the United States (US government issued ID) Position Summary SBWCN is seeking a qualified janitorial team member for full-time help at our Wildlife Care Facility (30-40 hours per week). SBWCN provides care to thousands of wild animals every year, with March-September being the busiest time of year. The center has multiple kitchens, animal care areas, and bathrooms that need regular daily cleanings. This position does not involve direct animal care. This position is janitorial in nature. However, any job applicant must be comfortable with animals as animals are kept throughout the facility. Duties include: - Using laundry machines to wash and dry laundry (sheets, towels, blankets, aprons, etc). Laundry should be folded and stored properly. - Cleaning and disinfecting of all common areas (restrooms, kitchens, offices) - Performing general cleaning of windows, floors, walls, and shelves. - Cleaning and disinfecting animal care crates - Putting away clean animal care items - Patrol center grounds daily, picking up any trash - Taking out trash, recycling, and compost - Organizing supplies as needed - Work cooperatively with volunteers and animal care staff to clean the facility - Alert staff when cleaning supplies need to be reordered. Minimum Qualifications: Experience: Prior custodial and/or janitorial experience in a professional capacity preferred. Physical Duties: May require lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs. Frequently requires handling of materials up to 20 lbs. Walking and/or standing for long periods. Frequently work in a bent position. Ability to clean with common disinfecting chemicals, including bleach. Work wearing protective gear (masks and gloves) and maintain social distancing. Working Conditions: This position takes place on site at the wildlife care facility and is not remote. Individuals must be able to learn quickly and work through stressful conditions and long work days. Frequent exposure to strong chemical odors, loud noises, and animal waste. Potential exposure to animal bites and scratches. Ability To: Use cleaning materials and equipment with safety and efficiency. Perform moderately heavy physical labor.
