This 6 hour workshop includes: studio orientation, safety training, and hands on flameworking. Everyone leave with something they made! Are you fascinated by glass, flames and gravity? Do you want to acquire a new skill, find or reclaim your creativity? Use this expressive, ancient process to shape molten glass with a bench torch to create small solid sculpture. Demonstration, personal instruction and hours of hands-on torch time will be offered at your own pace. All levels are welcome and will be able to complete projects during this class. The morning session: (10am-1pm) Orientation, safety, simple techniques, making basic shapes with the flame and tools. Lunch break: (1-1:30pm) The afternoon session: (1:30-4:30pm) Hand- on torch time turning those shapes into tiny animal friends, ornaments, Murano-style hard candies, mushrooms and more. Your new creations will be annealed in a kiln overnight and can be taken home the next day. No experience necessary. Closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing are required. The glass shop and it's classes are for ages 12 or older only. Ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Please contact Molly for details, [email protected]. Review our class cancellations and refund policies here. About the Instructor Molly Jackson is Technocopia’s Glass Shop steward. She studied Flameworking at The Worcester Center for Crafts. Currently she offers classes both there and at Technocopia. Since 2003 her glass jewelry has been featured in international and domestic magazines (Vogues, Women’s Wear Daily, Harper's Bazaar, Glass Quarterly, Modern Bride and many more), runways from Manhattan’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to Osaka, Japan, celebrities (Britney Spears, Ozzy Osborn and more) and sold in boutiques around the globe. 2015 brought her into a new venture of glass sculpture and installations. Most recently her pieces were accepted into the “Now! New Works, New Artists” exhibit. Technocopia is a non-profit makerspace located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Our 11,000 sq. ft. facility offers common work space, rental bays, and a variety of tools for artisans to create and work with. We also host training classes and workshops which make use of our shared work areas including: a complete wood shop, metal shop, 3d printer station, electronics bay, glass flameworking shop, classroom, design studio, and our CNC mill and laser cutter shop! Every Thursday night we are open to the public for our Open Hacks and Crafts event.
