Block party to highlight the need for more pedestrian friendly spaces, by transforming street parking into creative pop-up parks. DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY'S PARK(ING) DAY FESTIVAL SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 10 A.M. TO 8 P.M. | WALNUT STREET BETWEEN 9TH AND 12TH STREETS The Downtown Neighborhood Association will celebrate PARK(ing) Day during a block party to highlight the need for more pedestrian friendly spaces in our city. PARK(ing) Day began in 2005 and has grown into a global event when community members each year transform street parking spaces into creative pop-up parks. This year, Kansas City’s first PARK(ing) Day will fill downtown parking spots with art, music, entertainment, education, and food trucks (of course). City residents will enjoy spaces normally reserved for storing cars. Come play, eat, and relax in the parklets. If you want to create your own magical pop-up park or become involved as an event sponsor, register on the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s website and sign up for the July 14 webinar. https://www.dnakcmo.org FAQS FREE Festival attendance and parklet swag are free. FOOD Dine al fresco in one of the creative pop-up parklets, or bring a chair or your favorite blanket and picnic in any available parking spots. Outside food and drink are welcome and we will feature many local food trucks FUN Expect the unexpected at the festival where you will find almost anything in parklets. Other past PARK(ing) Day parklets featured chess tournaments, pop-up libraries, kiddie pools, massage demonstrations, bicycle repair classes, tarot card readings, recycling centers, health clinics, and a Pirate’s Cove where everyone talked like a … PIRATE! Let your imagination run wild. Register to host your own parklet or just visit the festival’s many fun parking spots. Pet Friendly You are welcome to bring your leashed dog to KCMO’s PARK(ing) Day Festival where you will find a dog station to pamper your pooch. Please pick up after your pet!
