In Winston Churchill: Through the Storm, the Prime Minister reminisces about his personal and public life, the war, and the possible future. Winston Churchill: Through the Storm, written and performed by Bruce Collier, takes place late in the evening of July 23, 1945. The setting is Potsdam, Germany, site of a summit conference of the victorious Allies following the defeat of Nazi Germany. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill has just hosted a banquet for U.S. President Harry Truman and Soviet Generalissimo Josef Stalin. He is about to return to England to learn the results of a parliamentary election which will determine whether or not he will return to the conference as Britain's war leader and help plan both the defeat of Japan and the balance of power in the post-war world. Over brandy and cigars, he reminisces about his personal and public life, the war, and the possible future. About the Performer Bruce Collier performs Stalin, Churchill, and Franklin Roosevelt. Bruce is originally from Dayton, OH, where he graduated from Wright State University with a B.F.A. in theatre. He also has a J.D. from Tulane Law School in New Orleans, where he practiced law as a public defender. Bruce has acted professionally in Ohio, at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and in New York, where his original play Tarts was produced at the Courtyard Playhouse in Greenwich Village. A resident of DeFuniak Springs in the Florida Panhandle, Bruce has acted at The Seaside Repertory Theatre and Emerald Coast Theatre Company, where Through the Storm had its world premiere. He is also developing an international clientele as a voiceover artist and has voiced Franklin D. Roosevelt in a short documentary for the FDR Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, NY. Bruce has performed as Churchill at the Florida Chautauqua Assembly in two previous seasons. He has also written a one-man, three-character play, Three Palaces at Yalta, in which he portrays Stalin, Churchill, and FDR, and which had its world premiere in January of 2021 as part of the Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Storyteller Series. Bruce is editor of the DeFuniak Springs Herald - Beach Breeze, a weekly newspaper that has been published continuously in Walton County, FL since 1888.
