TEWKSBURY, MA — A 2-year-old Tewksbury boy was saved from drowning by his uncle and sister Tuesday, officials said. Around 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Tewksbury Fire and Police Departments responded to a call for an unconscious child that had apparently drowned in a residential pool. On arrival, the first responders found that the boy's uncle had successfully resuscitated his nephew with CPR, saving his life. The boy had fallen into the pool and been pulled out by his 11-year-old sister. Dispatcher Rebecca Maccaro of the Northern Middlesex Regional Emergency Communication Center coached the uncle through the CPR. >>Pool Safety: Tips To Prevent Drowning In Tewksbury "Both [Fire] Chief [Joseph] Kearns and I are extremely grateful this child was saved by the fast work of Dispatcher Rebecca Maccaro and the child's family member," Police Chief Ryan Columbus said. "The role that our dispatchers play in public safety is vital to ensuring the safety of our community." The boy was taken to a hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, officials said.
