Quincy Float Driver Suffers Heart Attack - Saved By Bagpipe Band

QUINCY, MA — Quincy Police are applauding the off-duty firefighters and members of a bagpipe band after they helped save a man suffering from cardiac arrest while he was driving a float during Sunday's 4th of July parade. The driver of a flatbed was slumped over the wheel in cardiac arrest while the truck was still moving, as the parade was coming to an end, says Quincy Police in a Facebook post. The members of the band Pipes and Drums, all off-duty firefighters from local cities and towns, saw the man struggling and responded immediately. Police said they jumped into the float and secured the brake and the engine, preventing any major catastrophe that could have occurred. They then pulled the man from the float and performed CPR, until an off-duty Quincy Firefighter was able to bring over an emergency defibrillator and administer two shocks to the victim. The parade float operator was able to be revived and was immediately transferred to a local hospital. There has been no update on the man, but members of the Friends Of Quincy Firefighters IAFF Local 792 said in a statement, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim."
