New Fire Station In Marlborough: Leaders To Discuss Proposal

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Marlborough city officials will host a second public meeting in July to discuss plans for a proposed new fire station along Elm Street on the city's west side. The new fire station has long been a goal of the fire department and Mayor Arthur Vigeant due to growth on the west side, particularly in the Apex Entertainment area. Last fall, Marlborough purchased a parcel 481 Elm St. for $440,000 aiming to build the new station there. However, City Councilors have said residents near the site are concerned about traffic problems and noise. If the station doesn't get built along Elm Street, Marlborough may resell the Elm Street parcel. Fire officials say the new station would boost public safety in the area, and cut down on response times. On July 20, the public can attend a meeting with Vigeant, Fire Chief Kevin Breen and Ward Three Councilor Christian Dumais to hear more about the station plans. Marlborough held a similar public meeting in April. The event begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 140 Main St.
