Learn about Kratom -- a legal, widely available substance, which carries high risks to the individual, and to our community
The kratom leaf is processed into a powder, and used as a recreational drug. The FDA does not approve it for any purpose, and has issued warnings regarding its use. It is banned in some states, but not in Florida.
Kratom contains a chemical called mitragynine, which may interact with the body and mind like an opioid, a stimulant, or a depressant. It may be ingested as a pill, or in liquid, or it may even be smoked. Its use has been linked to serious side effects, including hallucinations, seizures, liver damage, withdrawal, and death.
