NEW YORK CITY — Brad Lander appears poised to oversee New York City's purse strings.
Lander, a City Council member from Brooklyn, held 51.9 percent of the vote after 10 rounds of ranked-choice voting, according to preliminary results released Tuesday by the city's Board of Elections.
City Council Speaker Corey Johnson had 48.1 percent of the vote, the results showed.
About 24,000 votes separated the City Council colleagues.
Lander declared victory in a celebratory tweet.
"With the vast majority of absentee votes counted, our lead has grown to 24,685," he tweeted. "I'm honored to be the Democratic nominee for New York City Comptroller."
