NEW HAVEN, CT —A 22-year-old New Haven woman was shot in the head Monday afternoon on Truman Street in the Hill neighborhood, according to police and myriad reports. It was around 2:40 in the afternoon when police got a Shotspotter alert and a number of 911 calls about gunfire and a person shot on Truman Street, between King Place and Clover Place, New Haven police spokesperson officer Scott Shumway said. When cops got there they found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, was treated for life-threatening injuries and, Shumway said, remains in critical condition. Police are asking that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators call New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS(8477), or text "NHPD plus your message" to 274637 (CRIMES). As originally reported by the New Haven Independent, a neighbor who knows the woman and her family, wrote on social media the incident is an example of "another young life destroyed by senseless street violence," Leslie Radcliffe penned. Radcliffe wrote that the young woman was shot "less than 100 yards" from her kitchen window. She reported that the woman "she died on the concrete..." Police said in a news release late Tuesday morning that the woman is in critical condition.
