WATSONVILLE, CA — A Salinas man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he struck two people, including a Watsonville firefighter, as well as parked cars at the scene of a 4th of July fire. Both people are recovering and are expected to be OK, Watsonville police said in a statement. Rosendo Avila Aguilar, 28, was arrested on suspicion of five charges related to hit-and-run and DUI. He remained in Santa Cruz County Jail as of Tuesday morning in lieu of $75,000 bail, jail records showed. Watsonville firefighters were battling a fire on Miles Lane Sunday night when Aguilar crashed into a fire department car, then backed up and hit parked cars, a firefighter and a bystander, police said. Residents of the area removed Aguilar from his car and detained him as police headed to the scene, according to police.
