SAN DIEGO, CA — The city of San Diego ranked 62nd among WalletHub's list of the best and worst-run cities in the U.S.
WalletHub compared the operating efficiency of 150 of the largest U.S. cities to determine how well cities are managed. The site's analysts constructed a "quality of services" score made up of 38 metrics grouped into six service categories, which were measured against the city's per-capita budget.
"Even when the U.S. isn't in a time of (a pandemic) crisis, running a city is a tall order," WalletHub researchers wrote in a report. "But how do we measure the effectiveness of local leadership? One way is by determining a city's operating efficiency."
While San Diego landed at the 62nd spot on the list, America's Finest City ranked as the second-best-run city in the state. Only Huntington Beach ranked higher at No. 20.
San Diego ranked seventh for quality of city services and 97th for total budget per capita, according to WalletHub.
There were 16 California cities included in the report.
