ELMHURST, IL — Late last month, a shih tzu mix named Milo arrived at Paws Pet Grooming, 299 N. York St., with "extremely" matted fur and "an incredibly strong" odor of urine, Elmhurst police said. After being called, an officer saw Milo and confirmed the dog appeared to be neglected, according to a police report obtained by Patch. This was Milo's sixth visit with a similar appearance to Paws Pet Grooming since February 2018, with the information documented in the dog's grooming file, the report said. In each instance, Milo's coat was shaved off because of the heavily matted fur, police said. The dog's owner lives in Northlake, a Cook County town that borders Elmhurst to the northeast. Elmhurst police alerted Cook County Animal Control, where a representative immediately called Paws Pet Grooming and notified how he would proceed with the investigation, police said.
