CHARLOTTE, NC — A driver was charged with several crimes including felony hit-and-run after a 33-year-old woman was struck and killed in west Charlotte Sunday evening, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said. According to CMPD, Rinnell Curry sustained life-threatening injuries in the July 4 incident shortly before midnight in the 2600 block of West Boulevard. She was later pronounced dead. "The initial investigation indicates the victim was standing away from her vehicle and in the roadway when a black 2013 Chrysler 300 struck her and then fled the scene," CMPD said in a statement. Shortly after the crash, investigators located the vehicle at the home of the suspect, who was identified as Jody Yeldell, 46. "Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors for the suspect," CMPD said. "It is unknown if impairment is a factor for the victim, but toxicology results are pending." Yeldell was charged with driving while license revoked, DWI, felony death by motor vehicle and felony hit-and-run, CMPD said. CMPD said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing and said that anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
