COBB COUNTY, GA — If you start hearing tornado sirens Wednesday afternoon, don't be alarmed. Cobb County is set to resume monthly testing of its 74 weather warning sirens (or tornado sirens), starting with a noon test Wednesday, the county said in a news release. The county temporarily stopped testing tornado sirens during the COVID-19 pandemic, because officials were "worried people were already on edge" and because some of the county's partners for the testing were no longer at their workplace. Some issues normally detected during testing have since popped up, like battery issues at one site causing the siren to make "unusual noises," according to the release. The test could be moved back in the event of inclement weather, so monitor Cobb County's website here for updates. Tropical Storm Elsa could have an affect on this monthly test.
