Places near town for dog to swim?

Anyone have a fav/safe place for a dog to swim- esp. with a jumping point? I used to have huskies, and they avoided water. But my younger lab loves to swim and fetch and fly into lakes. Any places with shallow areas along Chena River? Any tips would be appreciated!
