Free Empire direct vent natural gas wall heater

We are renovating an old one room cottage on our property and are replacing this heater. It is a direct vent wall natural gas type. It works ok, but every once in a while, its pilot light goes out. It probably is a small fix. The top looks somewhat shoddy, but when it got like this before, I repainted it with heat tolerant spray paint.
