We are looking for a passionate fabric intern to join our team at Discount Fabrics USA until our closing on August 15th. As a part of our team, you will be responsible for helping the store to improve our customer service experience. An ideal fabric intern has experience working with the public in a retail setting. They have customer service experience and know-how to deal with customers in a friendly, appropriate manner. An effective intern can relate to customers by possessing sewing skills and knowledge in different fabric types. If you do not know different types of fabric or currently possess sewing skills, we are willing to teach you so you may understand this to interact with customers. This person is detail-oriented, has strong organizational skills, and can work well in a fast-paced environment. There will be training on coping skills for working under pressure and a passion to learn. Specific Responsibilities A fabric intern must be able to operate all of the equipment necessary to perform his or her job. Mainly, this involves the measuring machine (AKA: fabric roller machine similar to this machine ). They must have excellent communication skills and be able to pass the information on to customers and coworkers. The fabric intern must also possess basic math skills (including knowledge of fractions) and can write, read and count. The fabric intern should also be able to document any necessary items in a manner that is accurate and understandable. We will teach quick math tactics while they work here as well. General Responsibilities One of the main responsibilities of a fabric intern is customer service. Our goal for our customers to have them feel they are in a hospitable environment – that their presence is acknowledged and welcomed. The fabric intern makes customers feel welcome to ask any question about the products sold and exercises patience with those requiring extra assistance. A fabric intern is expected to help customers select the ideal materials for projects. They will learn how to coordinate fabrics and pair them with the appropriate tools and accessories. A fabric intern also helps suggest appropriate sewing supplies for customers to complete their projects. Fabric Intern is also responsible for cutting fabrics to a customer’s desired length and should be able to complete a purchase as a cashier. The fabric intern is up-to-date on a store’s sales and promotions. Daily Tasks • Customer Service • Answer phone inquiries as well as in-store • Calculating Yardage for upholstery and drapery projects • Lifting Fabric Rolls • Organize Fabric and Design Displays Skills • Organizational Skills • Personable • Works well in a team • Works well under-pressure Dress Code A fabric intern must follow the establishment’s dress code. This person should be able to stand for long periods of time and can move and/or lift products in the store. A fabric intern is also responsible for generating sales, providing merchandising, and safeguarding company assets. Work Hours An ideal fabric intern is flexible and available to work different shifts, including weekends. This location will have shifts that begin as early as 9:30 a.m. and end as late as 4:00 p.m. once more experience is acquired. Starting hours will be 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
