Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike at Government Canyon State Natural Area.
Learn how to Leave No Trace while hiking the Recharge Trail, Bluff Spurs, down Sendero Balcones, back onto the Recharge Trail and out. This hike is approximately 4 miles in length with some elevation change and rocky trails.
Who is Invited: Open to ages 13 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations.
When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 7:45AM. The Natural Area front gate opens at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM.
What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; sunscreen and hat recommended. Wear sturdy footwear appropriate for rough trails; bring two liters of water PER PERSON and a snack.
Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants must be able to hike approximately 4 miles over rocky, uneven ground.
Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. Natural Area entry fees apply.

Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
