Help clean headstones of our nation's heroes as we remember those who perished and served on September 11, 2001.
In memory of those killed or injured on September 11, 2001, the anniversary has become a National Day of Service and Remembrance. Across the country thousands of Americans join together to serve their communities in the spirit of unity, honor, and compassion. For this year’s 9/11 Day of Service, we will host a volunteer event in our National Cemetery where volunteers will clean the headstones of some of our nation’s heroes. This small act of service will be a powerful act of patriotism.
Volunteers will arrive at the park at 8:30 AM and park in overflow parking, a gravel lot adjacent to the visitor center parking lot. You will use the crosswalk to cross Old Nashville Highway to reach the National Cemetery. We will meet at the flagpole in the center of the cemetery where you will check in. At 9 AM there will be a brief orientation about the cemetery and the project. From 9:15 AM until 11:30 AM you will clean headstones in your assigned section. After a brief cleanup, you will be free to go.
