BEL AIR, MD — Crowds flocked to Main Street for the Bel Air Independence Day Parade, which returned for 2021 after taking a year off due to the coronavirus pandemic. The theme for this year's event, sponsored by the Bel Air Independence Day Committee, was "Honoring Our Healthcare Heroes."
Hotrods, floats, dignitaries, marching bands, dancing troupes and horses were among the participants.
The parade route started on Idlewild and South Main Street and ended on North Main Street at Gordon Street. It ran from about 6 to 7:30 p.m.

South Main Street at MacPhail Road was closed, and so was North Main Street at Broadway.
The Bel Air Fireworks will be set off at Rockfield Park around 9:30 p.m. at 501 E. Churchville Rd.
Churchville Road will be closed between Rockfield Park and Bynum Pond during the fireworks.
"Please plan your route and be patient with law enforcement officers, our parade marshals, and your fellow drivers," the Bel Air Independence Day Committee advised.

Many people had lined up their chairs, tarps and blankets at 5 p.m.
