175th Street near Hillside Avenue, New York City NY
Description
I am renting just a small room, because if I had the space, trust me, I would so take this dog. Please read below.
I go to a park about 3 to 4 times per week at 175th Street and Hillside Avenue that is notorious for alcoholics hanging out. I noticed this guy one day, with this small white dog. The first thing that caught my eye was how unhappy and scared this dog looks. I started looking for them every time I came to the park. The owner would sit and drink all day long with his buddies, while the dog is on a leash trying to get to the garbage and sniffing all around for something to eat. All the while tail tucked in and looking so scared. I witnessed last week the owner was leaving the park, drunk, and called the dog to leave with him. He threw the leash on the ground and yelled at the dog to follow him. Then the owner got into a fight with someone and while they where fighting, the poor dog didn't know what to do and ended up in the middle of the street. I got involved and got its leash and got him off the road.
This broke my heart. If I could, I would take this dog, even though I'm more of a cat person. I reported this to 311, but within a few hours got back a report saying they couldn't find them and the case was closed. I feel so helpless and I can't stop thinking about this dog.
The last time I had a casual conversation with the owner, he asked if I wanted the dog. I don't know if he's serious, but can someone please help save this dog, or offer some other suggestions on what else I can do. It is so unhappy and miserable. You can see that just in its body signs.
Forever grateful
