Man Wanted "Suicide By Cop," Led Brookfield PD On Hi-Speed Chase

BROOKFIELD, CT — A man who sought "suicide by cop" led police on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon, according to Brookfield police. The Brookfield Police Department received a report of a "suspicious individual" at the Union Savings Bank at 200 Federal Road around 3:15 p.m. First responders found the man on Sandy Lane, and said he "stated he was armed and expressed suicide by cop," according to police officials. The man "became uncooperative" and drove off at high rate of speed. After losing sight of the vehicle, officers learned the man had crashed it at the intersection of Federal Road and the Kohls/BJ's driveway. Due to the high volume of traffic, the Brookfield police called in aid from Danbury, New Milford, Weston, Bethel and the state. The law enforcement agents worked to establish a perimeter and secure the vehicle. The man was removed safely from the crash and taken into police custody. Police found a loaded hand gun in the vehicle, according to their report. Police have not identified the man, who was taken to Danbury Hospital after being charged with numerous motor vehicle and criminal charges.
