JOLIET, IL — A 62-year-old Joliet man who lives near the St. Patrick's Cemetery has been jailed by Joliet police after authorities say he grabbed his gun and fired into the sky because his neighbors kept launching fireworks against his wishes.
Joliet police booked Gregory John Carik into the Will County Jail around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday. Carik lives in the unit block of North Cagwin Avenue. Carik has been charged with the felony offense of reckless discharge of a gun.
Around 9:40 p.m. Joliet police arrived at North Cagwin Avenue after learning that someone had fired a gun. "Officers determined that Carik had fired a handgun into the air after becoming angry with his neighbors about fireworks," Joliet Police Sgt. Dwayne English stated. "Officers made contact with Carik and placed him into custody without incident. The handgun used in the incident was recovered by officers."
Will County Jail records indicate that Carik was freed from the county detention facility after posting 10 percent of his $25,000 bail on Friday evening.
