I know this is a long shot but I am creating this post in hopes that I can somehow locate my moms blue and old macaw. He is a male and he is missing some chest feathers where he plucked as a young bird and they never grew back. His name is Skyler he answers to sky. He talks and even says shut up! We are located in Ohio but tbh he could be anywhere. I just want to know he’s alive and well. I am searching for him because when mom was diagnosed with cancer she was beside herself with grief knowing she was leaving her beloved pets behind and her blue and gold was not very old at all. I believe he was about 4-7 when she got him and that was about 7-8 yrs ago. They love to be well over 60 if cared for properly, so you can understand her worry. I promised her I would keep him for the remainder of his life and mine and I knew my eldest would carry on caring for him for his grandma when I no longer could. After mom passed though he was so sad and never bonded to me. I have a friend who looks very similar to my mom that he immediately connected to and that just broke my heart as I knew he though she was my mom. So when she offered to take him I put his needs above my own and agreed that we’d give it a try and so he went to stay with her. He was spoiled rotten and very happy there. We had fallen out of touch and she could no longer keep him and rehomed him to someone she felt she knew well. This person has since all but ghosted her and provides zero updates. I know at one point we were told by the current owner that he has a girlfriend and they’d bonded but then the female died. These birds do not just die for no reason so that to me was a huge red flag. The woman that I let take him home has tried to reach out to the ‘current owner’ and has not gotten much of a response. I am sick thinking he’s sold him and doesn’t even have him anymore or that his living conditions are less than desirable and tbh the more time that passes the heavier he is on my heart. It’s a promise I made to my mom that was broken.. not by me but that doesn’t help the pain and guilt I feel.
