We are currently seeking two experienced facilities maintenance workers to perform a variety of job functions in a fun, fast-paced environment.This position will work a regular schedule, with minimal overtime required (and overtime pay when it is). In addition, Metro offers a generous benefits package, including vacation and sick pay; retirement savings; health, dental and vision coverage; paid parental leave and more.What will you do Consult with supervisors, veterinarian staff and animal keepers to develop concepts, problem solve and determine the requirements of each job; prepare rough working drawings; estimate materials and parts needed; work with animal keepers on animal care and guest service requirements.Build, maintain and repair various types of buildings, sheds, fences, exhibits, doors, floors, walls, roofs, windows, counters, etc.Perform plumbing, carpentry, fabricating and other skilled duties.Use a variety of hand and power tools and equipment requiring specific skill, including power saws, routers, drill presses, metal lathes, paint spraying equipment, plumbing wrenches and automotive repair tools and equipment.Operate heavy and light equipment such as hydraulic auto lifts, forklifts, golf carts, front-end loaders (including tractor, backhoe, and bobcat), 10-yard dump truck and garbage truck.Troubleshoot, diagnose and make repairs to gas, diesel, and steam locomotives in both the mechanical and electrical systems. You may also prepare surfaces, perform body work, and paint rolling stock, tools and automotive equipment.Perform or oversee repairs and preventative maintenance duties.Compile data for reports.Communicate with zoo guests regarding projects and plans; provide directions and other information; assist lost children, missing persons and respond to emergency services.Experience and Education: Three years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of skilled trades, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and other areas required for facilities maintenance, ANDTrade certified or equivalent, ORAny combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for successful completion of the essential job duties.Experience working in a multi-facility campus with indoor and outdoor sites and diverse facilities systems is preferred.Additiional requirements: Valid driver's license with at least two years of driving history and a clean driving record.Medical testing and/or immunizations are required as the duties of this position may require close contact with animal areas and enclosures where animals may be present.To apply: Visit our web site at: for the complete job announcement and a link to our online hiring center.
