WHY: Get outside this summer and support your local independent musicians! June 18: Charlie Marie (Providence, RI) Charlie Marie makes classic country music for the modern world. It's a sound that bridges the gap between Nashville and her native Rhode Island — a blend of old-school traditions and fresh perspectives, fused together by a trailblazer who's been writing songs since her teenage years. June 25: Bait Bag (North Haven, ME) Bait Bag was founded in the summer of 2018 by Fiona Robins, Claire Donnelly, and Courtney Naliboff, on the island of North Haven, Maine. Their tone is planted firmly in rock and roll with a nod to punk and a knowing wink at the riot grrrl movement. Inspired by bands like Sleater Kinney, Blondie and Le Tigre, as well as anything loud, fun and inclusive, Bait Bag’s songs are intended to empower and excite, or at least give other frustrated people something to flail around to. July 2: Sojoy (Portsmouth, NH) Sojoy is a chord-less little big band modern jazz septet built around composer, arranger and drummer Jonny Peiffer. Sojoy is packed with some of the most talented players and improvisors on the Seacoast scene. July 9: Dead Gowns (Brunswick, ME) & Eliza Edens (Philadelphia, PA) Dead Gowns is a project from Brunswick, Maine. Pulling on folk, garage, and soft rock tendencies, it's music in the raw & tender. Eliza Edens is a Massachusetts-raised, alt-folk artist who more recently calls Philadelphia home. Edens brings her vision to life with adventurous fingerpicking, heart-tugging melodies, and poetic lyrics – inviting listeners to inhabit the songs as they wish. July 16: Hello Shark (Tallahassee, FL) Hello Shark’s Lincoln Halloran has the knack for making the most crushing verses feel heartwarming, simply because his eloquent expression raises the awareness that another human has experienced a similar feeling. Hello Shark recalls both Nick Drake and Arthur Russell. July 23: Jocelyn Mackenzie (Brooklyn, NY) Jocelyn Mackenzie is a Brooklyn-based musician, maker, and medium. A singer, songwriter, songwriting coach, artist, stylist, intuitive, and psychic, she recently released her debut solo album PUSH on Righteous Babe Records. Best known as the singing drummer from indie-pop trio Pearl and the Beard (2007-2015), her music and voiceover talent has appeared in film, theater, and television. Opening set by Charlotte Moroz and Guy Capecelatro III, listen here. July 30: The Huntress and Holder of Hands (Warren, RI) The Huntress and Holder of Hands is a 5-musician entity, employing cello, bowed string bass, electric bass, drums, five-string viola and guitar. As a band, The Huntress and Holder of Hands builds harmony, strings and bass-driven pieces influenced by Post-Metal, Blues and Americana and offers an intense musical and lyrical experience that explores love, loss, power and strength.
