Let's clean the beach together! What's up everyone!! Let's do this again, beach clean up pt. 2! We loveeeeeee the beach, don't we!? Our beaches give us paradise in our own backyard year after year. It's time to give back! There are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic waste in our oceans. 70% of those debris embed in our ocean's ecosystems. Over 800 species of ocean life are impacted by human litter. These animals ingest or entangle in our garbage, and some suffocate, starve or drown. We are killing species, ruining the symbiotic relationships of the ocean's ecosystem, and contributing to the death of our beautiful home. Bleak, huh. It seems like far too large of an issue to tackle on our own. But what if we could get to that plastic and trash before it blew into the ocean, or the ocean came to it. It all starts with making small changes in our community. That's why we gather to clean the beach! Because it doesn't take much to make a difference! And even one less piece of plastic in our ocean is something to celebrate. Plus, it's a lot more fun when you're with your friends! So come hang! I appreciate so much your interest in helping our community and bettering our environment! FOR THE DAY OF: Our MEETING SPOT will be at the flagpole right near the beach entrance if your park in PARKING LOT #1 (directly the first entrance when you turn in). You can just plug in "Point Lookout Park & Beach" into your GPS, or use the address 1300 Lido Blvd Lido Beach, NY 11561. Please bring water with you! Wear closed toed shoes! If you have pickers (for picking up trash) feel free to bring those along too! The Town of Hempstead will provide garbage bags and gloves.
