Guided tour of the Schweikher House
We remain committed to providing limited tours which are safe for the public and follow recommended COVID-19 preventive measures as well as the Governor's mitigation orders currently in place.
Guests will be led through the House & Studio by an expert docent and learn about the history of the property, the Modernist architect who designed, lived and worked in it, Paul Schweikher and the second owner/residents, the Langsdorf family.
Tours run approximately 60 minutes. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled tour. The vast majority of the tour is on one level; there is an optional room only accessible by stairs. We will make reasonable accommodations for guests with mobility issues.
For the health and safety of everyone, visitors(and guides) are required to wear a mask, practice social distancing and to remove shoes or wear shoe coverings (provided on-site) during the tour. Photography is allowed and encouraged. There is a restroom available.
The Schweikher House Preservation Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the American Institute of Architect’s list of 200 Great Places in Illinois.
The Trust was incorporated in 2009 to help oversee Modernist architect Paul Schweikher’s 1938 home & studio. Supporting events hosted by the Trust will help to further develop programs, tours, and outreach opportunities that promote and educate the public about the House and Studio and its former residents.
