Join SIBA for a birding trip to the Subalpine Forests of Scott Mountain! Meet behind the Valley View Chevron in Horseshoe Bend at 7:00am to carpool. meeting location On the road from Garden Valley to Loman, forest road 555, the triple nickel, leaves the valley floor and climbs through several forest types before reaching 8000 ft and the subalpine zone with subalpine fir white-bark pine and the cushion plants of this hostile and fragile habitat. On Scott Mt, we might find Clarks Nutcracker, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Williamson’s Sapsucker, a Spruce Grouse, or early migrant raptor working its way down the ridges. Also, our trip leader may talk about the rare plants and his family’s history on the “Mountain.” Plan for a full day. Bring water, snacks, lunch, and sturdy clothes. Little hiking will be involved.
