Peer Mentoring Day along with Book talk with Author for young adults
Join author Hamza Haqqi and a team of mentors for a fun-filled day of peer mentoring activates and pizza party in small groups. The goal of camp Learnza is to help students adopt a mindful and positive attitude towards life dealing with both personal life and academic pressures.
Event Timeline
1:30-2:00pm
When registration opens, volunteers will be scanning Eventbrite codes and selling books accordingly. To purchase the books, we will have a square e-card reader as well as cash. Guests are encouraged to buy the book from Amazon.com. This is the same as the previous event and mentors/ volunteers will be on site to help.
2:00-3:00pm
Pizza will be available to the attendees so registration is a must, as will the ability for the students to gain valuable perspective from the workshop. Volunteers will oversee cleaning up and closing registration and there will be a 1:4 ratio or 1:3 ration from mentor and mentee. The mentors will work out of the outlined program listed below in the appendix. Splitting up the day into 3 different worships.
3:00-3:30pm
Workshop 1 Introduction and Goals Setting + Book Talk
The book discussion starts with a brief introduction to Hamza and his journey, which is a continuation of the "My Story" segment that was published earlier this month. The book, as well as its message of mindfulness, resilience, and positivity, will be a focal point of the discussion. Hamza will be walking around checking in on all the small group discussions accordingly to make sure all the volunteers and mentors and mentees are all on track.
