Description
As a Thank You for being part of the Kingfield Garden Tour, (and as amazing visionary gardeners!) you are invited to a PRE-Garden Party! Kingfield Neighborhood Association (KFNA) & Kingfield neighbors Faith and Jim Kumon want to thank you for hosting the 2021 Kingfield Garden Tour! Since being on the 2014 garden tour site at their home, Jim and Faith have been ardent followers of the tour, now with their two kids in tow. The Kumons and their company, Heirloom Properties, hope to rejoin the tour in 2022 with their new property, the Sundial Building, 15 West 37th Street (Yes, that empty lot next to Butter! This is why it is a PRE-Garden Party, because there is nothing on the site yet!) They are developing a 12-unit apartment building on that site which is scheduled to break ground this fall and be completed in the spring of 2022. Background KFNA and Heirloom Properties are collaborators on a demonstration grant at this site with the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) to showcase rainwater harvesting, surface stormwater quality management and rainwater reuse strategies on this site. This will include over 3000 gallons of rainwater storage, a rain garden/swale, pervious paver back patio, native plantings and seasonal raised beds for edibles. There is about 1700 SF of outdoor space to program around the perimeter of the building and the Kumon's would love your input on how this space can be best laid out for the enjoyment of all who may visit the site area, including extending the boulevard garden area at Butter . There are also places for outdoor art around the building. Fun at the Open House! Besides enjoying delicious treats and beverages made by Butter Bakery, the site will be physically marked off so you can get an early view of how the building will layout. Poster boards of the designs of the various systems and landscape areas will be available for review and comment. If you have plants that you think might be great additions (we're looking to make a killer hosta garden on the shady north side of the building, for instance) snap some photos of your favorite plants to share at the event! Come at 6:30 PM to peruse the site area and images and at about 7 PM, Jim and Faith will give a short presentation and take questions. The rest of the time will be to collaborate, sketch, and just socialize with our neighbors. In addition to our host gardeners this year, invitees include the KFNA Board (with its many newly elected members), KFNA Redevelopment Committee and immediate 37th Street Neighbors. Kid-friendly refreshments from Butter will be provided; feel free to bring your own adult beverages and definitely bring foldable seating or picnic blankets to sit on.
