Description

In recent years, we can see graduates from Eastern Europe (CIS countries) have tended to go abroad. The most accessible and popular countries are Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Every year, thousands of Ukrainians, Russians, and Belarusians enroll in universities in these countries. Families with higher incomes send their children to study in Germany, France, UK, USA. Why is that? Is there really such a difference between national and foreign education? Of course, there's a difference, and it's enormous. Today, we will talk to Tetiana Isaieva, the founder and CEO of the TRINITY Education Group foreign language center. Tetiana is a leading specialist in the sphere of education with 10 years of experience. She is the co-author with Tathagata Chattopadhyay of famous books such as Your Guide to Cracking IELTS, Top Score in IELTS and How to prepare for a Behavioral interview. Three years ago, Tetiana received a prestigious educational grant from the International Organization for Migration. The center is located in the heart of the European capital, in the business district of Kyiv, near Independence Square. TRINITY Center is a leader in the educational market of foreign languages. In addition to the prestigious certification by Cambridge University, the school became a silver member of the "ADdvantage" partnership program of the British Council in 2012. Tetiana Isaieva has been observing the brain drain directly from Ukraine abroad for several years. We decided to find out why this is happening and what the trends of brain drain are. Tetiana, what is the current situation with the young brain drain from Ukraine? Tetiana: It's simple. In our time, the Diploma of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute doesn't impress an international company, and it simply won't be accepted. At the same time, a graduate of French Sorbonne or Harvard or a less famous university from the United States will be hired gladly. And the reason is that the teaching approach, and consequently, its quality, are at a completely different level. For 10 years, we have been preparing hundreds of young people to go abroad. TRINITY center specializes in preparation for international examinations in English, that's why 70% of our clients are future students of European Universities (80% of them are from Germany) and USA (Harvard University, Stanford University Massachusetts Institute of Technology), less often they are from Australia. Young people actively buy preparation courses for IELTS, TOEFL. SAT and ACT are also quite popular. If their English level isn't good, then within six months, they improve English to the required level and start training for specialized exams. Earlier, there was also Australia, but now we don't have such requests. A special issue is medical workers. Could you tell us more about medical workers? Tetiana: Due to the reforms in Ukraine, a lot of doctors lose their jobs and have to look for opportunities in the West. In the U.S., medical workers get 100-500 thousand dollars a year, which is tens/hundreds of times more than in Ukraine. So, doctors have to take IELTS (International English Language Testing System), OET (Occupational English Test for Health Professionals), PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) and leave home in search of a new life. Tetiana, what is the reason for the current situation? Tetiana: There is a fundamental difference in the approach to education. The Ukrainian diploma can be put on a shelf, just like the diploma of the USSR. It's not practical knowledge, but cold theory, which nobody needs. Education in the USA and Europe is valued by novelty, practical skills, and 100% quality.
