Description

Press release from the Waterford Public Library: July 2, 2021 Friday evening, July 9th at 6:00 p.m.  Join us for our first outdoor concert this summer with Marc Bernier, a chanteyman!  "Properly speaking, shanties are work songs sung aboard ships and boats. The word shanty, referring to this kind of song, turns up in the 1850s in the context of shipboard singing. No one initially called them "SEA shanties," which would have been unnecessary: only seagoing work songs, it seems, were called "shanties" back then." (Library of Congress)  Registration is recommended but not required for this event.  Rain date is Friday, July 16th.   Marc is a Chanteyman, Musician, Chef, and Sailor with a diverse musical and professional background. He is no stranger to sea music audiences, he spent over 5 years as a Mystic Seaport Chanteyman. Waterford Public Library al Fresco is presented thanks to generous funding from the Chelsea Groton Foundation!   This press release was produced by the Waterford Public Library.
